One thing I love about Instagram is the ability to connect with others you are inspired by, simply through the visual story they share with the world. Through Miss ShopDandy herself, Danielle, whose home tour was also featured on the blog a few weeks ago, I was introduced to Ashley who has the cutest blog called History In High Heels. She calls it that because she is currently getting her PhD in History, yet this future university professor still wanted an outlet for all things girly, such as her love of high heels, fashion, home decor and her personally designed oh so chic graphic prints she sells in her own Etsy store!
And today as part of her home tour here on the blog, she is giving away ONE print of your choice from her shop to TWO of you reading this blog! Here’s how YOU can WIN!
CONTEST DETAILS HERE:
1. Follow @scarlettlillian & @historyinhighheels on Instagram.

WITH A CURRENT CAREER TRACK OF BECOMING A HISTORY PROFESSOR, HOW DID YOUR ADORABLE PRINT SHOP & BLOG EVOLVE?
About half way through my graduate career I found myself tired (normal), stressed (normal), and stifled creatively (not so normal). I have always been an artist, and when I was young I was an oil painter. As an undergrad I couldn’t decide what I wanted to do, so I completed both a BA in history and a BFA in studio art. Grad school is tough and overwhelming and I lost my creative side in the process. But, a couple years ago I decided to redecorate my apartment and when I couldn’t find artwork I liked at a decent price, I decided to make my own. Well one thing led to another and my cousin recommended opening an Etsy shop. I was already playing around with blogging (to avoid studying) and I realized it was the perfect platform to express my creativity, force myself to write everyday, and promote my prints! So I went for it!
AS A STUDENT, YOU’VE ALREADY ACCOMPLISHED SO MUCH BETWEEN RUNNING AN ETSY BUSINESS & SPENDING TIME IN ITALY STUDYING ABROAD. WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 5 YEARS?
Hopefully I can maintain a healthy balance between my intellectual and creative pursuits. In five years I hope to be publishing my dissertation as a book, working as a professor (maybe even abroad), and continuing to create fun and affordable prints.
YOUR STYLE IS FULL OF LOTS OF BRIGHT VIVID BOLD COLORS. WHAT INSPIRES YOUR OVERALL STYLE?
Guilty as charged. I absolutely love bold colors and mixing patterns! I think my style is influenced by my lived experiences and love of travel. I often gravitate towards items that evoke a certain feel or memory. Navy stripes remind me of the Amalfi Coast and full skirts make me long for Paris. I think my pattern mixing obsession was born in grand bazaar of Istanbul!
WHERE DO YOU FIND INSPIRATION FOR YOUR APARTMENT DECOR?
I think my artistic aesthetic begins with fashion, which I consider art. I often translate styles, patterns, and fashion looks that I love into art. Not to mention the hours I spent on Pinterest!
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE HOME DECOR SHOPS?
I love the eclectic style of Furbish Studio, the navy obsession happening in the Design Darling boutique, and the bold accents of Z Gallerie. But I think my secret weapon is definitely IKEA. It is amazing what you can do with IKEA pieces!
WHAT IS THE GREATEST COMPLIMENT YOU COULD RECEIVE ABOUT ALL YOUR CREATIVE FLAIR?
Oh gosh, who knows? Hopefully it puts a smile on peoples’ faces and makes them love their homes! That’s all I could ask for.
ON THE OPPOSITE SPECTRUM OF YOUR INTERESTS, WHAT IS THAT DRAWS YOUR TO A LOVE FOR ALL THINGS HISTORY?
It might be cliché, but the truth is definitely stranger than fiction. I mean you can’t make up the types of scandal and intrigue history provides. Just the other day I was reading an archival letter that discussed an event where two university students murdered two rival university students over a disagreement concerning prostitutes. See what I mean? For me, history is also very personal. It helps me (and has the potential to help others) make sense of the world today. Without it I don’t think I could wrap my head around all the horrible things that are happening in the world today. I also think analyzing the past offers an important moment to assess and critique ourselves in the present.
SO I GOTTA ASK, IF YOU COULD MEET ANYONE FROM HISTORY, WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
Historians hate this question LOL! Right now I would have to say I would love to meet the woman who is at the center of my research, the last Medici princess, Anna Maria Luisa de’ Medici. I would want to know if I was getting it right!
YOUR GRAPHIC PRINTS IN YOUR SHOP HAVE A LOT OF FUN QUOTES ON THEM. WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE OF ALL TIME?
“Well behaved women rarely make history.”
Don’t you just have to have some of this cuteness in your space? Ashley is giving away ONE print to TWO divas in the #DecorDivaContest Instagram contest to win a fabulous print from her darling print shop! Scroll back up to the top for all the details on how YOU can win! Good luck and I hope you win!
