FAQ’s

Here’s some helpful info to let you know in more detail about my services before inquiring personally.  If you have more questions, I’d be happy to answer them.  Just shoot me a note on this page, and let’s chat!

Are you an interior designer? Or decorator? Or both?

I consider myself more of a home styling consultant.  If you are looking for structural changes to your home, such as a kitchen or bathroom remodel I advise you to contact a certified interior designer.  If you are looking for someone to help you achieve a “put together” look in a room for new or existing furniture, window treatments, lighting fixtures, paint or wallpaper, or home accessories, my passion lies in pointing you in the right direction to style and decorate your home after the structural components are in place. You can read more about my specific services here.

Do you have a degree in interior design?

While I was originally an award-winning architecture student in high school and college before changing my major over to magazine journalism (I know, big change there), my experience comes mostly from a personal love of all things home decor. Recently, my husband and I sold 2 houses, each in less than a week, and through this experience I gained an understanding of how the design elements involved in home staging and styling helped us have successful home sales! My creative background includes careers in photography and graphic design which have helped shaped my eye for all things beautiful in this world.  As a previous destination wedding photographer, I shot and stayed in many high-end luxurious hotels and wedding venues, always studying the decor and design elements of that particular area and culture.

Do you offer in-person decorating or just virtual?

At this moment in time, I only offer virtual decorating services. My goal in helping you is to create the game plan for you with style board and shopping list in hand, then you’ll be able to conveniently order everything online at retail prices to be shipped to your door ready to set up with my step-by-step notes included. Consider it a mix of hiring an interior decorator and Do-It-Yourself. Click here for a sample of what I have styled for other’s homes to help you visualize what I can do to help you. Additionally, I do also offer an in-person “Shop With Scarlett” experience if you are only needing another eye to help you put things together as you shop for new pieces instead of needing my full styling services. You can read more about it here.

Do you take on commercial projects or just residential?

My passion is in creating beautiful homes people love living in, so I keep my niche in residential style projects.

I just a have a few questions, can you give me some decorating tips via email/over the phone?

I wish there was enough time in the day, but unfortunately I won’t be able to answer all questions! If you need specific help with a room, please click here to review my e-styling rates and how it works!  Also, from time to time, I will answer questions on the blog for everyone to benefit from, so feel free to shoot me an email with the subject “Question For The Decor Diva.”

I like a traditional style, but notice your style is more glamorous. Can you work with any style?

I’ll be honest in saying, it depends. Glam/sparkle/bold color/dynamic is what comes natural to me, but I’d be happy to chat with you about your vision and discuss if it would be a good artistic fit or not for the niche I cater to.  Ultimately it is so very important that you connect with a decorator’s style for what they can implement for you, and if we aren’t a good fit, I’d rather be honest with you upfront so that you can better find someone to carry out your own beautiful taste.

I already have some great furniture pieces, but I just want my room to feel more put together. Can you work with what I already have?

Absolutely!  As part of the fun I have, I can help you bring in new accessories, window treatments and even a paint color change to completely transform the way your room once looked with the same great furniture pieces you already have.

I’m getting ready to put my house on the market. Can you help me stage my home to get it ready for photos and showings to sell quickly like yours did?

The way you stage and style your home is so crucial to a successful, and ideally quick, home sale!  The more people can visualize themselves living in your space, the more likely they are to make a purchase. This means getting rid of clutter, freshening up decor, and even moving around or replacing furniture pieces if needed. While staging homes is not a service I offer, ask your realtor for recommendations of people who do specialize in this service in your area.

I don’t have a lot of money to splurge on a makeover, what kind of budget can I expect to spend to redo a room?

That’s all up to you, darling! When you hire me, you only pay a time and talent service fee up front, and then I provide you with a list of where you can buy everything at normal retail prices. I can work with all budget ranges and research less expensive choices for you if need be.  We can also take it one room at a time if you aren’t able to do the whole house at once.  You can read more info on my services here so that you can let yourself daydream a little about the world of possibilities.

I don’t need home styling services, I just need someone to help with paint color choices. Do you consult about paint colors?

Yes! You can see more info on my paint color consultations here.

What’s your refund policy?

Upon receiving your payment, I begin many hours of online shopping research, pulling together the complete look of your room, analyzing what works and doesn’t work, all custom to your personal tastes and preferences.  Because of this, NO REFUND is available once payment is received.  My ultimate goal is to provide you with the home of your dreams, and will work with you on every detail until I implement exactly the vision of what’s in your head.  I ask for your consideration of the process and time involved, and sending me a payment acts as acceptance of my terms and conditions and agreement of this no refund policy.  My greatest compliment is your satisfaction, and I can’t wait to start dreaming with you!

I love your blog and have something decor or fashion wise I’d love to have you feature. Do you accept sponsored blog posts or items to promote?

It depends if it’s a good fit for the editorial style and content of the blog.  I’d be happy to consider it and send you my advertising rates if we would be a good fit. Let’s chat about possibilities here!

Wait, I thought you were a wedding photographer? And had a online fashion boutique. What happened to those?

One thing about being a creative person is the constant need to be challenged creatively.  And as an entrepreneur, my heart is always stirring to try new things. While I enjoyed a beautiful career in the world of wedding photography for almost a decade, I was ready to move on to other creative outlets in the next season of my life.  I enjoyed the time I did the fashion boutique, but ultimately realized it wasn’t for me like I had hoped. Through that experience, I realized, while I “like” fashion, I don’t “love” it the way I love home decor and get excited with butterflies everytime I enter a West Elm store.  I’m thankful for the past experiences I’ve had and each season has helped me gain skills I can now use in moving forward as a home styler! For those who have followed me along the way through my social networks, thank you so much for being here with me on the journey!
